19と20？

突然ですがクイズです。
この数字（19と20）とこの数字。何の数字か分かりますか？19と20。（並んでる！）そう、並んでいますね。実は19は6年生に関係がありますね。1〜5年生は20なのです。実はこの数字は、春休みまでに学校に来る日数です。今日を入れて1年生から5年生はあと20回来ると春休み、6年生は19回目が卒業式になります。今、聞いて、短いなと思った人もいるんじゃないでしょうか。
では、残りの20日、19日をどうやって過ごそうかなというのをぜひ考えてほしいなと思います。あと20日だったら、1日1回手を挙げてみようかなという人もいるかもしれないし、あと20日だったらあの子と遊んでみようかな、休憩時間に声かけてみようかなと言う人もいるかもしれません。あと20日だったら、けんかしてる場合じゃないな！という人もいるでしょう。ぜひ、優しい気持ちでいろんな人と関わって、残りの20日19日を精一杯過ごしてほしいなと思っています。
　5，6年生は今日は委員会がありますね。今年度の委員会も今日で最後になります。活動は続くとは思いますが、委員会で集まるのは今日で最後です。しっかり最後の委員会を務めてほしいなと思っています。1年生から4年生の皆さんは、高学年の姿を見て、自分たちもこういう風になりたいなと思いながら、今の学年で過ごせることを精一杯がんばってほしいなと思います。

I'll give you a quiz now. Look at these numbers. What do you guess about those numbers? 19 and 20. (They're in a row!) Yes, they are. '19' relates to the sixth graders, and '20' to the others. The answer is the number of school days left before spring vacation. The first to fifth graders will start the spring vacation after twenty days of coming to school. The nineteenth day will be the graduation day for the sixth graders. What do you think? Isn't it short?
How will you spend the remaining days? You have only 20 more days, so why don't you try to raise your hand every day? Why don't you play with that student? It is no time for quarreling. I want you to be friendly to everybody and try your best during these days.
You, the fifth and sixth graders, will have a meeting of your committees. You know it'll be the last meeting this school year, although your activities will continue a little longer. Treasure your last opportunity today. I want all of you, the first to fourth graders, to treasure your remaining days.

5年生代表のあいさつ

先週、6年生を送る会が行われました。それが終わって、学校の「リーダー」としての仕事が6年生から5年生に引き継ぎされます。5年生の皆さんが、今、ここで代表であいさつをしてくれました。とても元気に、立派なあいさつができたと思います。「5年生に任せて、大丈夫だな！」という気持ちになりました。これから、よろしくお願いします。
今日は5年生のあいさつにもありましたが、あたたかい朝ですね。もう、2月も20日ですから、もうすぐ2月も終わりますが、大分春が近づいてきている感じがします。冬から春にかけての陽気を表す言葉に「三寒四温」という言葉があります。「三つ寒くて、4つ温かい」という字を書きます。冬から春に変わるころというのは、ああ、温かくなってきたなと思うと、またすごく寒くなったりするのが、三日、四日と入れ替わります。そういう時期を過ぎて、完全にあたたかい日がやってきますよという言葉です。まさに今、ちょうどそんな感じになってきました。今日はまだあたたかいですが、今週また冷えるそうですから、皆さん十分気をつけてください。
さて、今日は、先週の6年生を送る会が終わって、6年生から5年生への引継を行う予定だったんです。実は、インフルエンザがずいぶん増えてきています。コロナウイルス感染症はずいぶん少なくなりました。今日はお休みは一人だけかな？　今度はインフルエンザがはやってきているようです。そんなわけで、体育館でやるのはやめようということで、今日は急遽校庭に集まってもらいました。
6年生がこれまで、学校の中心として、いろいろなところで活躍してくれたことに対して、「送る会」で、1年生から5年生までの皆さんが「ありがとう」の気持ちを伝えることができましたね。これから、いままで6年生がやって来た学校の中心のお仕事を5年生にお任せします。5年生はあと1ヶ月で6年生になりますので、がんばってほしいなと思います。4年生までの皆さんももうすぐ一つ学年が上がりますね。1年生はこれまで一番下の学年でしたが、もうすぐ新しい1年生が入ってきます。皆さんはお兄さん・お姉さんになりますね。新しく来る1年生のために、いろんなことを教えられるようになるといいなと思います。みんなはもうすぐ一つ進級しますので、この2月の終わりから3月にかけては、この1年の反省をしっかり行って、一つ上の学年になる心構えをもてるようにしてほしいと思います。まだ、寒い日も続きますので、病気にかからないように気をつけてください。
国ではもうすぐマスクはいらないと言っていますが、マスクをするかどうかは、その時の状況によって自分で判断できるようになってほしいと思います。
今週は1日途中でお休みもありますが、みんなが元気に過ごせることを願っています。手洗いなどしっかりやってください。これでお話を終わります。

校長「もうすぐ一つ上の学年」

We had the farewell ceremony for the sixth graders last week. After the ceremony, the fifth graders took on the jobs that the sixth graders have been doing for the school. Just now, the representative students of the fifth graders gave the greeting in front of you all. They did an excellent job. I thought, "It'll be all right with the fifth graders!" I expect you to lead from now on.
It's a warm morning, as the fifth graders just said. Today is February 20th. February will be over soon. Spring is coming closer. There's a word, "Sankan-Shion," for the weather between winter and spring in Japan. We use the Chinese characters, '三(three),' '寒(cold),' '四(four),' and '温(warm).' The weather between winter and spring changes easily; cold days come after a few warm days. After those days comes spring. Now is the time like that. It's warm this morning, but it'll be cold this week. Please take care.
By the way, we were supposed to have the ceremony for taking over the school duties from the sixth graders by the fifth graders today. However, influenza has been spreading widely, so we didn’t use the gym for today's morning assembly.
You could send your gratitude toward the sixth graders, who had been the leaders of our school. Today, the fifth graders take over many duties that the sixth graders did. The fifth graders will become the sixth graders soon. First- to fourth-grade students will move up to higher grades, too. The first graders have been at the lowest level in the school, but you'll soon become the second graders and have students younger than you. I hope you'll be good seniors to them. Review your past year, and prepare for the next school year. Cold weather will still go on. Please take care of yourself.
The Japanese government says we won't need to wear a mask soon. I want you to become able to judge by yourself when and where to wear a mask.
We'll have a national holiday this week. Wash your hands so as not to catch a cold or the flu. Thank you for listening.

おはようございます。
今日は2月13日です。さあ、明日は2月14日ですね。何の日でしょう？
はい、そうです。明日は、皆さんが待ちに待ったバレンタインデーです。日本では、バレンタインデーは、好意がある人にチョコレートを渡す日ってことになっていますが、外国では、チョコレートではなくて、手紙だったり、手作りのものだったり、風船だったり。そんなものを、好意のある人にではなくて、日頃お世話になっている人に、感謝をしている人に送るという文化があるそうです。皆さんもぜひ、明日は、日頃お世話になっているおうちの人や友達だったり、先生だったり、なかなか普段は言えない気持ちを、明日は伝える日にしてもらえればいいかなと思います。ありがとうという気持ちを伝えてください。

バレンタインはチョコの日？

Good morning. Today is February 13th. Tomorrow is February 14th. What day is it, February 14th? Yes, that's right. Tomorrow is St. Valentine's Day which you've been looking forward to.
In Japan, people send chocolate to someone they like on St. Valentine's Day. However, in other countries, they don't send chocolate, but letters, hand-made presents, balloons, and so on, to someone they thank. So, say thank you to someone you feel grateful for.

　2月が始まりました。2月3日は「節分の日」でしたね。その次の日、2月4日は何の日だか知っていますか。「立春」です。2月4日は立春の日でした。「立つ春」と書いて「りっしゅん」と読みますが、「立つ」という字は「はじまり」という意味もあります。つまり、春の始まる日という意味ですね。そこで、この校庭にも、春の始まりはあるのかなと思って探してみました。
　集会室の裏の、梅の木。梅の花が咲き始めていました。水仙もいろんなところに咲いています。1年生が植えたチューリップの芽も伸びていました。葉っぱの落ちているコナラの枝の先端がちょっと丸くなっていました。中をのぞいてみたら、みどりいろのものがぎっしりつまっていました。これは、調べてみたら、葉っぱだそうです。どんな風に入っているんだろう？気になって調べてみたら、これは、折り紙みたいに画用紙で作ってみましたが、扇子みたいに折りたたまれているんです。これが春の4月くらいになると、このように伸びて、葉っぱになるそうです。このように、冬の間に、たくさんの葉をきれいに折りたたんでいるのはすごいなと思いました。
　今日は立春にちなんで、春の兆しを探してみた話をしました。皆さんも、校庭や、公園、おうちの周りで春の兆しを探してみてください。

コナラの葉っぱを画用紙で

February has begun. February 3rd was the Last Day of Winter on the calendar. The next day is February 4th. What day was it? February 4th is the First Day of Spring on the calendar. "立つ(to stand up)" and "春(spring)" makes the word, "立春(risshun)." The Chinese character "立” means "to start," too. So, it means the beginning of spring. I tried to look for something showing signs of spring in the school ground.
(Showing pictures) This is a plum tree standing behind the assembly hall building. The plum flowers have bloomed. We see daffodils all around, too. I found the buds of tulips the first graders planted expanding. I saw something round on the tips of the twigs of the Konara oak in the park. I looked at it carefully and saw something green and compacted. I wondered what it was, so I looked it up in books and on the internet and found it was a leaf of the tree. I wondered how it is folded, too. I found an answer in a book, and I made this with paper, like Origami. It is folded like a Japanese folding fan. In April, it will grow out like this! I was surprised to know it is folded like that during winter.
Today, I talked about signs of spring after the First Day of Spring. I want you to look for signs of spring, too.
